PDF Reader for Windows Phone

Windows Phone 8 users have always found it hard to get a nice app that supports PDF files. Even the PDF Reader app by Microsoft Corporation lacked support for password-protected/encrypted PDF files. Microsoft released a new version of PDF Reader v1.1 app that also supports the password-protected PDFs. Let’s talk about more features of the PDF Reader app for Windows Phone.

PDF Reader v1.1 for Windows Phone allows opening PDFs directly from the emails and when they are opened in PDF Reader it adds to My Library to allow users to access those PDFs later. If you don’t want to keep any of them in My Library, you can delete them by tap and hold a specific PDF and delete that file. You can also delete all PDFs in one go by going in to Options > Delete All. Tap and hold a specific PDF and share the PDF to SkyDrive to allow your friends to access that PDF.

When you open a PDF the file opens in fullscreen, tap the screen anywhere to get the options menu where you get options to jump to a specific page, bookmark a specific page, switch to single page view or continuous view, rotate PDF left or right and share options. Continuous view shows next page in continuation of the current page. In Single page view only a single page is viewed at a time, to get to the next page you can use the arrows available in the options bar at the bottom of the screen. You can switch between the pages of PDF only using the next and previous page arrows in the options bar, while it could be better if swipe left or right gestures are added to switch between pages.

To zoom in/zoom out you use the standard pinch to zoom gesture. You can also find a specific text in the PDF using the Find option, results show list of pages where the searched text/phrase is found, taping one of the results takes you to the specific page but you will have to look out in the page where that text/phrase appears on the page. You can’t select/copy text from the PDF.

PDF Reader for Windows Phone

Overall, PDF Reader v1.1 for Windows Phone works great and supports well for all types of PDFs whether they are read-only or password-protected. The only thing that lacks is ability to copy text from the PDF to anywhere else. If you haven’t got the PDF Reader for your Windows Phone 8 device, then get it today from the Windows Phone Store.
