We’ve recently reviewed the Temple Run 2 game for Android. Today we are here with the review of another Dodge and Dash game, Subway Surfers, which is not like any other Temple Run clone game but a genuine Dodge and Dash game.
The Subway Surfers game is full of colors with HD graphics. The characters and objects are well animated that you certainly enjoy while playing the game. The game looks and feels really nice. You have to run from the grumpy cop and his dog while collecting coins and powerups to make the gameplay even more fun, while also dodging and jumping trains on the tracks. That is what you’ll have to do in the game. Unlike Temple Run you don’t have to tilt the phone to change tracks, you need to swipe left or right to change tracks.
You have a number of characters to choose from, Jake is the one that you get when you fresh install the Subway Surfers game. Most of the characters are unlocked by spending coins you collected during the gameplay, while some characters are unlocked by collecting desired number of a specific item you get on opening a Mystery Box. These Mystery Boxes appear during the gameplay, you need to collect the Mystery Box and open it after the game is over.
Let’s talk about the boosts and powerups available in the game. The coins that you collect during the gameplay allows you to buy powerups like the Hoverboard, Mystery Box, Score Booster and Skip Mission. There are also upgrades that allows you score more during while playing, these upgrades includes Jetpack, Super Sneakers, Coin Magnet and 2x Multiplier.
A Hoverboard gives protection against crashes for 30 seconds and is activated by double-tapping the screen during gameplay. Score Booster increases the multiplier by 5. Mega Headstart allows you to skip the first 1000 meters in a quick run. Skip Mission allows you to skip the current mission you are on.
The set of powerups are great which makes the game more fun and more scoring, these powerups includes Jetpack, Super Sneakers, Coin Magnet and 2x Multiplier. Upgrades are the way to increases the duration of the powerups available during the gameplay. Jetpack increases the duration of the Jetpack powerup and so do the Super Sneakers, Coin Magnet and 2x Multiplier upgrades for the respective powerups.
The developers also made the in-app store where you can buy coins by paying real money from Google Play Store. You can also earn coins without spending your money by either liking the developers’ Facebook page, following them on Twitter or by subscribing their YouTube channels via the app. If you want to get most of the items and characters unlocked you need to purchase coins from the store as accruing coins during the gameplay aren’t enough to unlock those items and characters, that would take a whole lot of gameplay or say time-kill.
The Subway Surfers game also has Daily Challenges, each day you will get a new challenge achieve them and you will earn more achievements. Complete missions to get to a higher level of the game and get more fun out of it. Overall the Subway Surfers game is an awesome Dodge and Run game to play and is my personal favorite. I recommend it over the popular Temple Run and Temple Run 2.For this review Subway Surfers was tried on Apple iPad 4 and Samsung Galaxy Note II.
