Microsoft yesterday announced on the Windows Phone Blog that the Windows Phone 7.8 update for existing Windows Phone 7.5 devices will be available in early 2013. Not only this, the blog post also tells us that new handsets running Windows Phone 7.8 will also be launched in many countries in near future. These devices will be carrying lower price tags to make them affordable.
Windows Phone 7.8 update will bring the much appreciated Start screen with adjustable Live Tiles, so you can adjust them as per your needs. The update will also double the number of theme and accent colors to 20, so you can make the interface appear as you like it. It also brings the new lock screen features to automatically display the Bing Picture of the Day and the ability of setup PIN/Password to prevent accidental wiping on phones connected to Exchange accounts.
There will also be new apps released for WP7.8, including the popular Angry Birds Space and Angry Birds Star Wars. Currently the WP7.8 is under testing phase and Microsoft is working with its developers to bring a high quality release for their loyal customers. Microsoft says that they will try to make the update roll out to as many WP7.5 handsets in early 2013.
Announcement of the WP7.8 update to release in early 2013 has made previous rumors prove wrong of its arrival before Christmas. With the launch of Windows Phone 8, Microsoft has not retired the existing WP7.5, instead they are upgrading it to WP7.8 providing some of the WP8 features to the users. They are also continuing to expand to more markets where users can buy apps and use the Xbox service.
We will have to wait and see whether the WP7.8 update will be able to make the WP7.5 users happy with this update as there were mixed reactions from the customers on WP7.5. Stay tuned for more news on Windows Phone and share your opinions in comments below.
