Commercial version of Aakash 2, Ubislate 7Ci now availalble for Rs 4,299

The commercial version of the low-cost Aakash 2 tablet – Ubislate 7Ci is now available for purchase from Datawind’s official website for Rs 4,299. Ubislate 7Ci is the WiFi-only version of the tablet. The manufacturer is also taking pre-orders for the WiFi+Cellular version Ubislate 7C+ for Rs 4,999 which according to the website will start shipping in next 3 or 4 weeks. Aakash 2 or Ubislate 7Ci is the successor of the Aakash tablet.

Ubislate 7Ci and 7C+ feature a 7-inch display with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. Both are powered by a 1GHz Cortex A8 processor along with 512 MB RAM and run Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich mobile operating system. They have a front VGA camera for self-portraits and video chat, and have 4GB internal storage. Both the tablets support microSD and miniUSB. In addition to WiFi, Ubislate 7C+ also has a slot for sim card and thus supports GPRS.

The tablet Aakash 2 is the subsidized version of Ubislate 7Ci which will be available to students at a subsidized price, expected to be around Rs 1,200 to 2,500. The first generation of the Aakash tablet had become a huge disappointment because of poor quality and delays in shipping. There are many who ordered the first generation Aakash tablet and are yet to hear about the delivery.
