According to a recent report on The Wall Street Journal Apple’s next iPhone will be equipped with a new technology screen that will make the phone slimmer making room for additional components. The new display of the iPhone 5 will have integrated touch sensors, so there will no need for a second glass layer to make it touch sensitive.
The new display is already in production and is being manufactured by Sharp Corp., Japan Display Inc. and LG Display Co. The technology that is being used in the display has been called the in-cell technology, where touch-sensors are integrated into the display without the need of any secondary layer.
The absence of a second layer in the screen will make the phone slimmer compared to the current iPhone 4S which is 9.3mm thick. This will make room for other components like a bigger battery or likewise.
