Sony today announced two new additions to their lineup of Xperia smartphones. They have announced Xperia go and Xperia acro S Android phones that are extra durable and water-resistant. Both the Xperia phones meet industry standard Internal Protection ratings for protection against dust and water.
Xperia go has an Ingress Protection (IP) rating of 67, while Xperia acro S has IP55 and IP57 ratings. The IP rating specifies the environmental protection of enclosures around electrical equipment, that means, the protection for the internal components by the casing of a gadget from the environment (dust and water). Both the phones are durable enough to be submerged in water to the depth of 1m for 30 minutes without causing any damage.
Xperia go is powered by a 1GHz dual-core NovaThor processor, 512MB RAM and runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread mobile OS upgradable to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. It features a 3.5-inch scratch-resistant Reality display with Mobile BRAVIA engine.
It also features 5-megapixel camera with LED flash, capable of HD 720p video recording. Xperia go comes with 8GB internal storage and a microSD slot for extended storage of up to 32GB. Other features include Bluetooth, xLOUD for enhanced sound and it has ARM Mali 400 GPU for enhanced graphics.
Xperia acro S
Xperia acro S sports a 4.3-inch scratch-resistant HD Reality display with Mobile BRAVIA engine. It is powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm processor and 1GB RAM running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich mobile OS.
It features 12.1-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and is capable of recording 1080p videos. Xperia acro supports Bluetooth, NFC, HDMI and xLOUD for enhanced sound. It comes with 16GB internal storage and has a microSD slot for external storage of up to 32GB.
Xperia acro S is PlayStation certified with access to Sony Entertainment Network and PlayStation Network. With Xperia acro S, you can have high quality gaming experience and access to PlayStation Store for more content. The phone also features Adreno 220 GPU for 3D graphics that delivers richer gaming experience.
Xperia acro S is NFC-enabled, so you can use the Xperia smart tags with the phone or share content with other NFC-enabled smartphones.
Both the phones are expected to reach global markets in third quarter of this year. In US Xperia go will launch with “Xperia advance” name. Xperia go will be available in Black, White and Yellow colors while Xperia acro S will be available in Black, White and Pink.
